Common Curriculum
These works were completed in electives and common curriculum courses at the University of Denver.
Media, Film and Journalism Studies: Sexuality and Screens
This course focused on the ways in which sexual identities and practices appear within screen-based digital media culture, such as television and video games. Issues such as sexualization, intimacy coordinators, the mediation of consent, queer digital activism, and the politics of casting were discussed in this class. The final project was to analyze and revise a form of media that poorly represented sexual identities. I wrote about The Idol, a Netflix series starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd that is infamous for its "cringe" takes on Hollywood and woke culture.
Advanced Seminar: Bad Words
This advanced seminar focused on the history and evolution of "bad words" in our society. Topics included expletives, slurs, vulgar language, swears, and profanity. The final paper was to explore a topic of our interest while including texts from the course. I chose to research how and why cursing often presents in patients with Alzheimer's and Dementia.
