Writing Minor
These works were completed as part of the writing minor at the University of Denver.
Theories of Writing
This course was the foundational class for the writing practices minor at the University of Denver. It focused on the history of writing, the importance of writing, issues of literacy, writing as a science, and much more. The final project was a research paper on a writing-related topic. I chose to survey college students on whether they listen to music while they write, and what effect they believe it has on their mood, productivity, etc.
Fundamentals of Argumentation
This course discussed the foundations of societal argumentation. Topics included creating cogent arguments, assessing opposing arguments, communicating judgments effectively, and analyzing arguments from a theoretical perspective. One of the papers from this class was to explore and debate a controversial topic. I chose sex education in schools and explained both sides in my paper.
Writing Design and Circulation
This class was the capstone class for the writing minor. Assignments included readings about the curation and circulation of writing, conducting analyses of personal writing and writing processes, and a substantive revision of one writing assignment from a writing minor class. I chose to revise something I wrote while traveling during my semester abroad. My goal for this assignment was to transform the genre into a travel-recommendation blog featuring photos from my trip.
