Psychology

These works were completed in courses required for the psychology major at the University of Denver.

Counseling Psychology: Health and Positive Psychology

This course focused on how we can use psychology and coping strategies to better ourselves and others. Topics included how stress affects the body, the pursuit of happiness, burnout, and gratitude. One of the papers for this class was to research the cultural implications of one of these topics.  I chose to explore the concept of happiness and how different cultures define it.

Adult Psychopathology

This course examined the different forms of mental illness and the factors implicated in their history, treatment, and effect on society. The final paper for this class was an analysis of a form of media that prominently featured a mental illness. I chose the movie, A Beautiful Mind, which followed mathematician John Nash and his intense, decades-long battle with paranoid schizophrenia.

Infancy and Early Childhood

This course examined how infants perceive and interact with the world through a psychological lens. Topics included object permanence, motivational states, fairness, and in-group support. The final paper was to expand on the literature on a core topic by developing an experimental procedure and hypothetical results. I researched in-group support measures and language preferences in infants.
